so, so annoying.

I am so frustrated.

I play smart. I never get action on any big pair and have to manufacture every pot I win postflop, I get to the final two tables with about 12K in chips and around 4/18 - yeah, we're all relatively short stacked, but w/e, I can make something happen here. Just need one decent pot to get the ball rolling.

And I proceed to get completely reamed, because people reship offsuit paint like it's the freaking nutz preflop to raises and jams. I get to watch people openraise 86o with just a 10BB stack and call off with second pair on the flop. Oh, and because no one understands Lightning's range, muppets double his short stack through twice before he jams BvB on me for 7BB and I have to call with KdJd -and naturally I'm behind Ad8d - and I flop J - and an Ace on the river..., there goes half my stack.

Shove 55 over an UTG limp and someone reshoves with AJo from MP. So smrt. Ace in the door.

Done 15th. So freaking pissed. Not even a stupid mincash. I'm just so frosted, b/c it's not like I should really be doing anything different.

I have been one pot away so many times in the last few weeks. One more shot Wednesday.

Im not a professional by any means and Ive been struggling with my own donkey play, but I think what you are describing here is twofold:

1) You are getting kicked in the junk on races. Regardless of what you have and what you are up against. Down variance.

2) Your response to how people play or even how they might play has to account for what someone might push/call with. The Math wont give you that information (even those HUD displays that tell you at what time of day some player may 3-bet), only observation and a little bit of luck can. I dont know if its players who spend most of their time playing online but it seems that the art of going with your gut and intuition has been lost, if you cant justify the call/fold with math then it is a "horrible call/fold".

Its common sense, but you cant play their cards for them, you can only adjust your play to beat them. If you arent getting the playback you want when you have big pairs, adjust your strategy.

Again, you are a far superior player to myself, so Im just offering an opinion. I wish you luck that you grab a TOC seat tomorrow.

1) agreed that I haven't won a meaningful BBT5 race in a long while. pure variance, can't control that.

2) I don't play with HUDs or anything, but yeah, a lot of my play is math-based. even though I'm been trying to adjust for history and playing styles in this series. I just haven't pulled the trigger in the right spots.

It's not like I haven't gotten better - three of the last five tourneys I've gotten to two tables with a top 5 stack - but even then, you gotta catch a break or two, which is what I mean by one pot here or there.

I take that pot v. Lightning last night, maybe that propels me to a really deep run. Or maybe not.

I haven't caught someone light against me in a big pot in forever, though. People are coming correct when they do stick it in, and that's probably my fault in the grand scheme of things.

Then again, we're talking about 17 tourneys here. Hard to make any definitive conclusions - I've had quite a few 0-for-20 runs in SnGs, and I know I can play those just find and dandy.

GL to you too.
Maybe we can chop heads up. :-)

That is the thing that is so frustrating about tournament poker -- that one hand can completely change everything.

GL tonight. With one seat left things might get dicey.
