FTOPS sats, pfft. - Mookie bounty, ok..

You know, I'm glad Jamyhawk has fun with FTOPS satellites.

What do I get?

Cruise into final table of a 4.40r before I run into a donk with -55%ROI over 600 tourneys (ick) who does this to me.

Opens 4x UTG+1 to 2400, I jam with AKo from the button with 13K, he snap calls AI with his last 6K - and 33. Flop QTx, turn 3, joy. Should have stop and go'd his dumb ass.

Five hands later, I open jam AKo from UTG+1 for 6500, shortie calls AI for 4K with AJo, he tank flats my shove in the cutoff with AQs for 1/3 of his stack. Flop AQx, more joy.

Other satty, I never have anything, lose two flips, no joy there either.

At least I ran +350 the other night crushing SnGs for a short session.

I'm not sure he really meant it, since it was on his Twitter feed and nowhere else, but Al put a bounty on this week's Mookie - of course, right now no one is registered for it.

Blogger poker tournament revival. If the Mookie gets 80 players next Wednesday I'm throwing in an FTP jersey to the winner.

Time for silly yearly Fantasy Baseball memes again...

This season's version of the All-Latin team - or at least players with some Latino background to them... again I draft so many Dominicans instead of Venezuelans, I really need to change the team name from hugochavezlovechild to something more relevant to the DR.

All suggestions welcome.

Initial thoughts: Again, I can probably cobble together a better-than-you'd-think pitching staff by raiding some middle relievers out on the waiver wires, and my infield is pretty solid, but jeez, my outfield is atrocious. A struggle for a podium finish in a 12-team league (I squeezed out a third place last year)

groundhog day....

This is likely the 47th time (give or take a few) the last six months in the Mookie that I run AA into KK, or KK into AA, and don't get there. This is a recording.

anyhow, I shortstack ninja my way to the final table, manage to build a meh stack, only way I win pots is by jamming decent hands that don't want a call... - finally bounce on the bubble to Joel when I raise QQ BvB to 1475 at 250/500/50 and he flats with a silly 24K stack.

Flop A72r, I jam 4600 into the 3K pot and get looked up by A5s...

.. so it really wouldn't have mattered, I doubt he folds A-high to a 10BB jam from the small blind four handed with that stack. Still, that's a $42 three outer, finishing 4th of 21, so boobooboo.

Why poker drives you nuts:

After being ridiculous patient in the 50-50 for almost three hours, all this in one frigging orbit.

Blinds 200/400/50, I have TT in MP and an 8K stack.
I open to 1175, big stack donk with 31K, who has jammed twice pre for nine billion blinds with AA over my raises, shown, and let me get away for the minimum both times, flats in the cutoff.
Flop T76, two clubs. I like, lede for 2275, get snap called.
I love the 7c turn. I check, donk bets 4400, I jam for 300 more, and miraculously hold vs. 44 no club.

Then the chat from the whiny table nit adds to the pain a couple o hands later.

96Hum69: ew
dryoungman: omg
96Hum69: gross
heffmike: like I said, like I should worry about some momo making a desperate play and getting there.

96Hum69: i had q7
96Hum69: lol

goatee66: wtf - typical FTP nonsense

96Hum69: i had q7 (we saw it the first time, putz)
96Hum69: hehe

So then, naturally, later in the same orbit, when MP with a 20K stack openraises to 1299, I have to jam 10K with JJ, because even though the raise size SCREAMS AA/KK, it could be AK/TT/random shit enough to where I think I should shove - naturally, it's AA and there's an Ace on the flop, not even a sweat.

I wouldn't even be playing that wide open if I just didn't get hosed out of a 13K pot and was left relatively short with 20BB. Out about 60 short of the money.

Of course, in the other $55 tourney on Stars not a few minutes least we were already in the money here.

Blinds 400/800/75, I have KhQd in the big blind with 13K.
Shortie in EP openjams for 4K. I have a pretty easy call when it folds around.
He shows QcTc. Flop AdTs6d. Turn 3d (what a sweat) River Qh. ahhh three outers.

After that, I open jam AJo for 6BB from the cutoff into three 11BB stacks, who all rejam with.
K9o, (LOL)

and I not only don't get there (trip nines FTW) but get hosed for an $8 pay jump when three of us bounce and I'm on the bubble.

I swear, if I get enough opportunities at these tourneys, I'm getting there someday.

I'm not good at rebuys. really.

Now, when I run bad/hit a downswing/get results in line with my shitty play - it tends to snowball very quickly. Usually, I'll hit a vicious 3-4 day freefall, and then slowly recover over a couple of weeks. This latest one is a 25 buy-in dump at SnGs/MTTs, which got accomplished by

-running and cashing OK in single table SnGs, but not enough firsts, too many thirds.
-going 0-9 in all my 18-man SnGs
-losing every 90-10 I jam all my chips for in some MTTs, running headfirst into painfully obvious pair over pair spots preflop in others, and then playing tilty uber-bad in the rest.

The nutty PokerSlut rebuy Sunday night was a perfect microcosm of WTF it's like lately.

It was a $1+1 tourney with unlimited $1 rebuys.
I was in for $20, in a 17-person tournament.
94 rebuys, and I take 18 of them, plus the add-on.

KsJs vs. A8o on AxQs4s flop, board blanks out
KTo vs. A7 and 44 AIPF - board runs out T96J... 4.

KQ vs. QJ, I call a Pinkystinky open jam, J on river
22 vs. AA, UTG jams very next hand, I call hoping to flip, yeah right.

ATs vs. AK, I call another openjam way too light, don't get there.
87s vs. everyone, auto-rebuy throws me off, I punt the last 300 chips from ATs hand into three other players, don't hit.

TT vs. 53o, I call another Pinkystinky jam, two pair on the turn
A7 vs. A4, I actually make a thin call that's good, but the board runs out a chop.
88 vs. T6, I jam and get called, four card Broadway on river.

Then I forget that I'm not busto and the auto rebuy doesn't engage - so naturally I pick up AK and KK the next two hands, jam, and only make 700 chips until I can hit the actual manual rebuy button. Freaking dodo Heff.

22 vs. QT actually holds when I flop a set vs. PinkyStinky.
JJ vs. AA - when Pinky jams a billion blinds again, I know by now he's actually doing it with a hand, but I can't fold here.
A9 vs. 66 - I jam, get called, can't win flip.

By now, I'm wondering if I should even keep rebuying. After all, I buy back in just to be in last place with 20BB. But I'm not a master of sunk costs, so I keep feeding coins into the slot machine, $2 at a time, hoping it'll finally hit.

Last hand of rebuy period, I jam that 20BB stack with JJ over a raise, get reshoved on with QQ - but I turn a J and only go 4-10-1 (jeez) when I'm all in for the first hour. - so at least that saved me two more bucks.

After the break, nothing happens for a while.

I resteal with 88 for 20BB over a 3x open and cold caller and don't get looked up, strangely enough.
I finally reshove for 6K over a 1K EP raise from a 22K stack at 120/240/25, with QQ, get called with AJo, and hold to finally get an average size stack.

Reverse rebuy luck starts coming.

I call a shortstack reshove with A7 vs JJ and board runs T94J8 for the four-card straight.
I raise QQ, Pinky jams on me, I hold vs. JJ.
VERY next hand, I have JJ in the blinds, SB raises, I jam, he snapscalls with QQ, but there's a Jack on the flop

Just like that, over 60BB at the final table and second in chips.
Of course, I need to finish third just to break even now.

I win one more pot with KK before ELM22 and I get heads up - he's got me outchipped 2-1, but there's like over 140BB in play and $10 at stake, and I really don't want to be playing for another 15-20 minutes HU (although I really need the trigger time) - so we just chip chop it and call it a night.

What a ridiculous roller coaster. I get reamed in the rebuy period, make some stupidly thin calls, then turtle up, pick up some hands, spike sets when I need to and manage to actually profit from the experience.

I really need to find a way to make this a little less hard on myself, smooth out the variance, and keep the graph heading up, not down.

entertainment, with a grumble.

For over two years now, I periodically get random calls on my work-issued Blackberry - it's never work, it's always someone trying to call the previous owner of the number - some Hispanic guy named Ernesto, where the caller is speaking Spanish like 95% of the time.

Well, today, I got another one of those calls, but with a different result.

(phone rings, I see it's a 202 number, so from D.C.)
I pickup
"Who's this?"
"What? Who's this, I don't know who you are..."

ten seconds later
(phone rings, same number)
I pickup
"I need a woman, how much?"
"Dude, you have such a wrong number..."

So either Ernesto was a pimp, or someone got the wrong outcall number....

Poker sucked Thursday night. Observe.

**$11 PLO8 rebuy on Stars. I'm in for $30. About three hours in or so...
Villain raises 3x UTG+1 to 1800 with 18K stack, I defend my blind with AQQ8 nut hearts with a 8K stack.
Flop 993 with hearts. I check, dodo bets 1800, I go with my read and jam for 6100, he calls off with A774. Fucking genius.

The 7h on the river really frosts me. Done like 56 of 209.

Momo villain is like -20% ROI over 600 tourneys, in the money 10% of the time.

**$55 on Stars, I'm in a hand with another donk with a big stack

This donk is about -50% ROI over 800 tourneys, in the money 10% of the time, only 3 winning months since 2008.

I raise UTG with AJo to 725 at 125/250/25 with a 5K stack. donk flats in MP with a 20K stack, all fold.
Flop JT2, two clubs, I bet 1725, donk snap calls.
Turn 9s, pot's over 5K and I only have 2800 left, so I shove... and get snap called by T9o

Brillant flop call sir, considering what I have behind, and that's I'm jamming the turn whether you spike your five-outer or not.

**$55 on FTP. again, I'm about two hours in and have built an OK stack.

After I openraise/call a 7BB shove with TT vs AKo and see a AKx flop come, I open shove the next head UTG for 10BB with A9o
UTG+1 TANKS before reshoving for 25BB with AQo. At least he's a barely break even player that regularly plays $50 freezeouts and the like.

But seriously, that's a tank, in that spot, against my range? FML, and FU.
I flop a 9, but he turns a gutter straight. so hitting trip 9s on the river is just pffft, whatever.

**I play the $75 KO on FTP so horribly it's not even worth mentioning. Those guys pwned me so silly.

**I play a Stars $22 Stud/8 tourney, bounce around, actually had a top five stack before the table idiot that kept trying to river two high pair kept catching on sixth and seventh against me and I finish 25 of 82.

I KNOW bad players have to get there sometimes or else they'd never play.

But I swear, I wish I could say - oh, a stud just outplayed me and I suck (well, that was the $75 KO) - as opposed to, THESE MONKEYS KEEP GETTING THERE ON ME BUT THEY'RE JUST GOING TO SPEW THE CHIPS AWAY TO SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE THEY SUCK.

If I'm going to drop $200 in a session, I guess it's better this way than in cash. I expect people to play bad in tournaments, me included.

I get another mini-vacation...

So Jenn's brother just had his second son, and she's heading down with BabyGirlHeff to Mississippi for a few days. I just realized that I'm without half the house for the beginning of March Madness - even though I never watch college basketball anymore, I think I will enjoy this dude time just fine for a couple of days.

BTW, I ran KK into AA again in the Mookie last night.
It was probably the one time I should fold KK pre.

Seven handed, blinds 15/30. I've got 3500 and the table covered, but it's like ten minutes in.

UTG+1 raises to 105, button threeballs to 360, I fourbet with KK out of the small blind to 775.
UTG+1 folds, button snap jams for 2900, and I'm pretty sure I never see QQ/AK in this spot.

I call, flop has an ace, river gives me a now-useless set instead of the ten I need to spike a running Broadway.

With only 14 runners tonite, the Mookie has really been sputtering this year, a long slide that started after the BBT series - it's fading away just like its eponymous founder.

I'd like to see it stay alive, and will play whenever I can.

But, maybe it's run its natural course.

Saturday, March 13, 2010

hey, I can close, I get coffee...

So last night I was on Stars for once, donking around in SnGs, when I noticed there was a regular 20+2 tourney with only 30-odd runners - so I figured I'd give it a shot.

I also decided to play a 2.20 PL Badugi tourney, but that only lasted three hands because I'm shocked people play the game properly at that level - or I just suck, take your pick.

Anyhow, the $22 was a 36-person tourney - I didn't even win one pot until the 50/100 level and I was already down to 700 chips. But when you shove KQs into J9s, JJ into 66, AA into JJ, you get healthy real quick.

Then you run good, call three reshoves in six hands - AJ>QQ, AQ>J7, AQ>A5 - and suddenly you're at the final table with 70BB and at least 2x everyone's stack.

Start running meh, end up the low man as you get four-handed with 10BB - have to fold everytime the crazy Russian on your right jams every unopened pot BvB and you have nothing to look him up with.

Then you dirty him - he jams the button for 16BB, you snap call all in with A4 - and you spike an ace on the flop vs. 99 to double through.

Sounds bad, but his next two shoves on me were J7 into A6 and Q3 into A3 and he was gone.

After that. the end was so so easy. 72 hands from three-handed play til the end, 50 of them HU. Other than folding my blind every so often, I went 47-5 if I played a hand. They never called a raise or gave you action unless they had a hand - no moves, semibluffs, nothing. Bet/raise meant they had a big hand, check meant pls run me over.

Since it was so easy to whittle everyone down, HU took a lot longer than it should (I started with a 3-1 chip lead) because I didn't see a need to take any chances, esp. after I raise/called with Ax and doubled up his JJ after winning 10 of first 14 pots - Finally jammed with JJ over his first open raise in years and his AJo didn't get there.

So ship the $240 profit, woot. Nice to play decently shorthanded and HU after the AIPS debacle - one advantage of the Stars MTT structure, as opposed to the SnG, is the 15-minute levels once you get deep - now that meant the tourney took three hours, instead of two, but hey, some things take time.

We'll see if I run any more miniFTOPS this week - I like some of the events but the times just suck for me right now.

Thursday, March 11, 2010

I don't run any better in emailaments....

so I've done the WRGPT for the last 4-5 years - it's like the Dark Ages of online poker... and this year hasn't had anything fun happen. A few hands earlier I had openjammed for 15BB and gotten called by this guy with KJo, so I figured even if I get called on this resteal, I'm probably very, very live.

LOL at everything, the open minraise, how I basically would have pwned on the flop if I just flat getting 3-1, and the king coming on the turn.

Oh, and boo FTP for running a FTOPS PLO8 tournament at 1pm ET for all their Euro muppets and hosing those of us who work for a living and love four-card bingo in the USA.

I had a hard drive crash on my work laptop for the second time since December. I'm religious about data backups, but it still sucks to have to restore everything just the way you had it on an XP system. Fuck Gates, Ballmer, and the whole Windows industry - Dell and HP and their suppliers - up their stupid asses. Worked with Macs for almost 20 years and may have had a crash once.

That is all.

Final Tables, but no real joy.

so I haven't been playing much lately, but Wednesday night was busy.

MOOKIE! - only two tables, but I did manage to roach and final table this. I spewed early, two outed NYRambler on the river for fives full vs. jacks up and doubled through, decided to 3B/call ChampSampson's preflop shove for 40BB with AQ and hold vs. AT - then ran AA into Waffles's KK all in pre and watched a king hit the flop.

I actually managed to double through at the final table (AK>AJ) to pick up a decent stack, but then I had to play back at LJ, which never works for me.

Blinds 100/200, LJ owns with 17K, I'm roaching with 3600.
LJ opens to 500, I jam with 44, she calls with 33.
3 binks on the turn. Done 7th of 18.

miniFTOPS #1 - Yeah, I got stupid and played this with 18,000 other donks. Was pretty easy for the most part, chipped up gradually, nicely, and easily for the first few hours up to about 20K, but started hitting a deadzone and finally 3b/called from the blinds (AGAIN) with 88 for 20BB and couldn't get there vs. JJ to finish 4440th, which, while nice, is still 2000 players short of a mincash, LOL.

AIPS: I remembered to play, and again I had a big stack early in the first hour, until I shoved JJ into QQ pre and dropped back down below average... I managed to stay afloat, make some crucial double ups (KK vs AT, A6 vs. QQ when the flop checked through and we got it in on the turn when the second 6 hit the board) and I ended up with a decent chip lead halfway through the final table...

Then edwardm111 kept taking out fools and we ended up heads up - I was down 2-1 in chips, but I still had 30BB and I felt like I was just going to figure out a way to get that fourth banana if I just stayed patient and played solid...

...and in response, I played like complete ass, got run over, didn't adjust quick enough, and finally called off with a live 98 for 18BB that couldn't get there vs. AJ to finish first loser.

That was completely fucking horrible. (during this time I spewed in miniFTOPS too, so I played pretty well for 3 1/2 hours and punted it all in a span of five minutes, grumble)

But credit to edwardm111 - he won the last AIPS, so back-to-back for him - I think PokerGeekMN did a repeat last year too, so this is starting to become a trend.

At least I finally made that deep run I should be making in AIPS - but man, I gotta work on HU and BvB play, because I'm really starting to get pwned in these spots where it just shouldn't be happening.

le sigh - better half pwns

so my wife, while she doesn't get to play all that much, is actually a fairly good tournament player that can manipulate people pretty well with some odd, but effective lines.

So I guess I shouldn't feel that bad about this in tonight's Mookie.

Who am I fooling - jeez that was awful, she freaking PWNED me hard.

I don't know why, but I feel so tired and beat this week without actually being sick. My body feels like it's been hit by a bunch of wiffle ball bats - not completely whipped but just feeling drained. Hopefully it's just temporary exahustion from raising a baby and not something crazy serious.

Oh, and of course, she pulls this off for Rockets hand 5 of 5.

Willwonka minraise opens to 320, she flats with AA, Shabazz repops to 1300 on the button, will shoves 2K, jenn reshoves 5K, shabazz calls them both.

Will - 88
Shabazz - QQ.

Flop all clubs, no one has one, turn blank, river Qc. lol, gg,

I'm telling you, she's dangerous.
