As a part of Lent, yeah, I'm trying not to drop f-bombs. As a corollary, I am TRYING not to go on megatilt for the next few months. I fully expect to get sucked out on numerous times and have people make bad plays. Many of them will be my own silly moves. So what. That'll happen is the mantra.

** I honestly have no idea how I got so deep in the Mookie this week -I think I was courting Schaubs' curse - I get short and shove AQ into AJ, call JoeSpeaker's shove with 44 and fade his overcards - I channel the halfasian gambool and start goofing around, playing way loose, shoving and reraising with a wide, wide range... - before I know it, I'm three handed and slinging chips around.

Nothing out of the ordinary. I cooler people. People cooler me. I end up on the positive end of the flips, come THIS CLOSE to running back to back but don't have the mojo working heads up and finish second to UnTiltable15.

the long march commences

so the BBT4 finally kicks off this weekend... this should be interesting. Should I be asking for backing too like Waffles?

I hope to play most of the events, schedule permitting, and see if I can do any better than the last time I ran this. (25th, meh)

Since the return of the Big Game is this weekend, figured I try and farm tokens for the buy-in, which I usually do well... but last night was the "let's see how far behind the villain can call off his stack and still suck out" game, followed by the "let's see how many times Heff can run his big stack into a shortie's monster hand and keep doubling people up" show. Very very annoying. I HATE wiffing on tokens, because they are so easy to get. boo.

Anyhow, I love razz, but not enough to play a Skillz tourney - so prolly laying low and farming the tokens until the Mookie Wednesday...

Mookie #4 review

looking back at last night - it wasn't all that interesting, actually.

Had a smooth first hour and chipped up to 6K before settling down to 5K by the first break.

Once hour two begins, I start bleeding chips, then make an unwise reshove over Carmen's button raise with KQo from the blinds and lose to AT to drop down to 3K. I make a really tight/nitty fold against LJ - I open to 450 from UTG+1 with that 3K stack, LJ shoves right behind me for 3680, and I tank fold AQo, as I don't see her reshoving 20BB that light against me.

Then, the NumbBono comedy hand:

NumbBono: snap re-jam with A-10....hilarious

Well, I'll just say this:
1) I think Lightning can be shoving wide enough here for ATo to have decent equity. I don't think he's nitty enough to be folding this holding with a 12BB stack. He can easily have a small pair/weaker ace here.
2) Shoving can get small pairs, like BamBam's 77, out of the pot, which is good for me. (even though I'm surprised he didn't take the shot in a multiway pot.)
3) I would rather try to double through or go home at this point in the tourney, instead of clomping around shortstacked waiting for a big pair.
4) I gambool.

Anyhow, after that I get to settle down and watch the Lucko show.

*He calls two shoves with JJ and holds vs. AK and 44 for a 10K pot.
*He chips up to 12K, then raises a limper from the cutoff to 960, NumbBono, with 6K behind, reraises from the blinds to 2250, Lucko shoves with 88, Numb instacalls with QQ to double through.
*A few hands later, DDionysus opens for 900 from the cutoff, Lucko shoves from the blinds with KQs, gets instacalled by 99 and drops down to 1500.
*NumbBono gives him a courtesy double up by calling a shove with 32o before Lucko shoves into my Queens with A8 and does not hit. This all took about 15 minutes.

After that pot, I start hitting a groove and chip up to 16K by the second break, we condense to two tables, and I win a couple of flips vs. short stacks to get up to 25K before I play Santa to JoeSpeaker.

Blinds 400/800/100, five handed, I'm the big stack with 25.7K.
Joe opens for 2600 UTG with a 9K stack, I call with ATs in the small blind, even though I smell danger signs with that raise and stack size and seriously considered folding. But hey, I hate giving up, maybe I can stop and go him instead.
Flop Q75r. I think and shove, hoping Joe missed the flop.
He takes a second (prolly in shock) before calling with QQ.
Somehow top set holds vs. a runnerrunner draw by turning a boat.

That was stupid. But at least I recover and chip back up to 23K by the time we get to a final table, good for third in chips. I'm pretty quiet early on at the table and watch everyone else get active... Microvillain is just abusing all of us on the bubble with his big stack - I actually fold AJs to an openshove because I just have a bad feeling and actually listen to it this time - and finally NumbBono bubbles out and I have my cash for Team Schaubs.

I shove into BuddyDank's blind with A8o, he calls with J9s, I hold and we're down to five handed play... - then JoeSpeaker and WYLDKARD get eliminated in the next two hands and we're down to the three of us..

So I'm in survival mode, go card dead, and have to fold a LOT more than I want. Every hand's a shove or fold, and I am not finding great spots to stick it in. I bottom out right before the rush comes...

Hand 2 - microvillain raises my blind to 10K. I shove K2o for 36K total because I've been so passive, I think I'll actually get some credit. microvillain calls with KJo, I flop a 2, he's left with less than a thousand chips.

Hand 3 - Joanne1111 and I both check down the board until she makes a straight on the river to eliminate microvillain and we go heads up

Hand 4 - Joanne1111 raises her button, I shove 70K with A8, she folds

Hand 5 - I raise with QQ, she shoves with A8o, I instacall and she does turn a flush draw, but I hold and leave her with 600 chips..

From there she won five straight hands to get back to 12K before I finally get AA>QTs and take it down.

So yeah, obv I play brillant, not.

This time I just played a solid game, pushed the edges I could to accumulate chips, didn't spew unless I could afford to, and took advantage of the one silly suckout to ride the wave home.

I suckout really really bad vs. Microvillain (who was playing really well, FWIW) three handed - KJ vs. K2 AIPF, bink the deuce on the flop - to get heads up, and then QQ fades Joanne1111's A8 for most of her stack a couple of hands later to effectively to seal the deal.

So at least that worked out. No more goose egg. I'll see if there's else anything notable to report, other than NumbBono laughing at me for reshoving AT over a UTG shove for less than 10BB and winning a flip... it is the Mookie, after all.

this Omaha thing may have a future....

When I was looking at the NYRambler tonite, I thought it was a six-max PLO shootout.... NOT a heads up tourney. Bad Heff not reading the blog, but seeing Shootout in the tourney lobby without noticing the little 2 next to it... So anyway, I don't play a lot of PLO, mostly PLO8, but hey, I don't mind a heads-up tourney every now and again....

Played Blyght first round and ran really really well - so I had the match well under control and finished it off in 30 minutes...
I'm up over 2-1 in chips, he pots his button to 240, I gambool/repot with AcKcQcQd, he shoves with AhAsKs6c. I call and flop a flush draw that gets there on the river.

Had some time to wait around for the round of eight, and I draw Hoyazo... which was a fun, albeit quick match. 100BB, pshaw. It lasted 10 hands. I hit the first 7 flops one way or another and got out to a small chip lead. Then I really hit the eighth one...

Standard cooler - somehow I just knew that 6 on the turn gave him a straight, but I'm in too deep now and the board can always pair on the river.... So that'll happen...

But going back to calling the flop raise. - Here's the interesting thing - and granted, I don't play PLO a lot, so I could be way off here, but indulge me..

You raise preflop, lede the flop and get raised on a dry ass flop. Maybe villain is monkey tilting with KKxx, but almost every time the blind will have two pair or a set - sometimes a low wrap - basically, they've got AA notched pretty good. So, your redraws...

Well, if the board pairs, villain's set just filled up, and when villain has two pair, 2/3rds of the time he just improved to a full house as well - only 1/3rd of the time your Aces Up are actually good.

You have a backdoor heart draw, but you will have to call a shove on almost every turn, especially with half of the villain's stack already in.

Even most low cards (3,4,8,9) are going to complete a wrap if villain is being a complete gambooler.. and if not, they're blanks to both hands and don't matter anyway.

Your two clean outs are the remaining aces. A six makes your gutterball, but you'll have to fade the river regardless.

I just don't know if your redraws are good enough in this particular spot to call the flop raise when you'll have to call a shove on virtually every turn, even getting 3-1 on it. It looks great when you bink it, though.

Thoughts welcome on all hands, because I have no idea if this makes any sense to anyone who actually understands PLO...

Long story short, I don't cash in either tourney. Long story long, see below.

So the evening begins with the first AIPS tourney now that it's moved over to Stars... We begin the fourth series, and I've managed to win one banana each of the first three years, so it's time to be winning the fourth, right?

Anyhow, a bunch of runners for this one... over 160 - and with Stars's structure having this odd slow.. slow.. quickquickquick slow.. slow.. progression, there's plenty of time to play for the first 40 minutes or so, but then you gotta get moving to get past the 90 minute mark

So, I decide to play fast and loose like a monkey and go through a silly, up and down first hour.

First hand of note, blinds 10/20, I have 1420 in the SB with J6o.
UTG+1 limps, MP limps, I complete, BB checks, four to the flop.
Flop Jd7d4s. I check, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, MP bets 60. I call, folds around.
Heads up to a 2s turn, I check, MP bets 100, I raise to 300, MP calls.
River 4c. Not my favorite card, but I don't think MP has an overpair and I may be able to fold out a weak Jack or underpair. I lead 450, MP calls with JTs.
Not sure if that's a nice call or a stationy one, or both. w/e spewmonkey in effect...

Two hands after that, still 10/20 blinds, I only have 630 in the cutoff with AKo.
Hijack limps, I raise to 120, BB cold calls, limper folds.
Flop Ad2hTh. BB donks for 140, I shove for 510, he calls with...... Qh6h.
Turn 4s, River 4c so no flushie, I double through back to 1300.

Onward to level 3, 25/50. I have 1190 in chips with KhQh on the button
UTG+1 limps, MP limps, I raise to 200, BB cold calls, limper folds.
Flop 9d3d3s. BB checks, I bet 500 (half my stack), BB cold calls.
Turn 4c. BB checks, I figure he's NEVER folding his draw or pocket pair and check behind.
River 2d. NOW BB donks for 500, I really can't beat anything and fold.
He shows KdJd for the dominated hand that turns into a rivered win. That'll happen.

After this I open shove Ac9h for 10BB, get smooth called by 55 on the button AND AK in the blinds... and river a nut flush to triple back up to 1470. Just in time to spew again.

1300 in chips with 25/50 blinds. EP limps, I complete with T8o in the small blind, BB checks..
Flop 9s5c2c, checks around.
Turn 7h, I figure the draw's good enough to bet, I lead for 100, BB calls, limper folds. BB only has 580 left in their stack, so I'm not sure why he's calling in this spot to begin with...
River Qh. This looks like a bet/fold spot, so I value bluff for 300, BB shoves for 280 more, and I wish I just gave up and check/folded to begin with. Dunce.

I finally bust out 107 of 168 by holding AKs with 870 in chips at the 50/100 level and raising UTG to 300 instead of openshoving. MP flats, all fold.
Flop Q94r. I shove, MP calls with KQs and yep, the three out curse strikes again.
I probably get a walk if I shove, but pick up very few chips.

I forgot that the AIPS level of play is so much different than a Mookie or BBT. Much cold calling with dominated hands. Much flatting in spots where you usually see a fold or raise. Anyhow, I spew too much and fail at getting 70-30 hands to hold.

AIPS ends right before the Mook, so at least I don't have to track both tourneys... I start off by taking advantage of my monkey image.

Blinds 15/30, I have 3075 in the small blind. Chippy McStacks opens for 99 in the cutoff, I reraise to 300 with two cards. Microvillain coldcalls from the big blind, Chippy calls. I check fold the turn after the flop checks through.

Very next hand, Chippy opens again to 99, I reraise again to 300, all fold, he calls.
Flop Qc9c5d, Chippy check calls 400.
Turn 2h. I love that card. Chippy checks, I shove for 2K. he calls with KQs.
Good to have him drawing dead with a set of nines, I double through.

Later, blinds 30/60, I have 5900 in the BB with 83o. MaggieO open limps in the hijack, Chippy calls his button, yosoyveneno completes, I check.
Flop J83r, whee. Checks around to Maggie, who bets pot. I call, heads up to the turn.
Turn 8c. Well, hard to get paid in a limped pot, so I check and Maggie checks behind.
River 5s, I lead 600 and get called by J9o.

I don't think I can get value on the turn AND river - not sure about this line. Anyway, I guess this is another time where being a monkey most of the time gets you called in these spots, where I'm either bluffing or got a monster. I probably need to revisit this, though: I don't think it's really optimal in the long run.

Get to the first break top five in chips, spring a small leak when I fail to bet a draw on the flop or turn, finally lead after villain rivers second pair.... but then I call a couple of short stack shoves with small pairs in the blinds heads up - and win flips vs. their overs to get up to 10K and the chip lead in hour two. I find that people are calling me post flop when I'm making obvious value bets, so that's a nice thing.

I do slip up a bit at the end of hour two and slide down to only about 8K as we hit the break. That third hour is always so active preflop, because no one usually has more than 30BB and there's a lot of shove/reshoving going on. I'm usually pretty good at pushbotting, but I ran so, so good...

-Shortie shoves 7BB, I reshove with AQs, run into AA, do not suck out.
-I shove AsTs for 3BB way way short- BuddyDank in the big blind has to call and shows Qs4s, so I should feel good. Flop has two spades, turn is a 4 (are you serious), but river completes my flush.
-BuddyDank opens UTG, I shove on the button with AQs, he calls with JJ, I flop a Q... but the river is a J.
-I finally get to shove A6 into QQ and watch Lightning36 flop quads (I did hit two pair by the river, whee)

so 14th for me.. boobooboo. I run into brick walls in the Mookie. Dookie was meh too - I shouldn't play when it's NLHE because I just don't pay attention to it that much. I think I sat out of it for 10 minutes and totally forgot I was still playing...

Anyhow, no prop bet movement, no one cashes on either side. I play better than I have recently on Wednesdays. I've actually slowed up a bit this month, so I need to recover a bit of momentum and maybe play a real MTT soon along with some SnGs and get back to grinding again...

Almost forgot - food for thought hand this week.

You open with a 7K stack in the cutoff, blinds 80/160, to 425. Folds around to the big blind who shoves for 7K - he barely has you covered. So, it's about a 45BB effective shove into a pot with oh, maybe 4BB in it after your open.

How wide are you calling the shove? QQ an instacall? You taking a flip with AK/AQ/JJ/TT to go big or go home?

Conversely, how wide a range should the resteal be? Obv, if the cutoff raiser is calling with a narrow range, you can reshove with all sorts of connectors and silly hands here if you love variance....

may not be the best idea, even if you get a tank call with AKo.... I guess I could get a fold from AQ/TT there, maybe, and that's about it unless it's a hammer raise or something... I just get an idea in my head that I'm getting raised light and can get laydowns in spots that only happen in live situations, gaak.

If I ever threeball/think about folding AK in a heads up spot preflop in a tournament for 40 blinds, just shoot me. Yeah, a fourbet shove usually is AA/KK - but I think it's QQ/JJ/TT/AQ enough times, coupled with random shite like A4s, that you gotta go with it and flip if you're reraising OOP without a huge read. I'd rather someone monkey off a fourbet into me so I can get it in and see all five cards than have them flat and leave me in a raised pot, out of position, with AKo... (hmm, that's good to file away)

Then again, I tend to seek out those "double through or go home" moments a lot to begin with.

Maybe someday I can run like Lucko - AA>KK all in preflop two hands in - after I'm done, shoves QQ into AT on a AKx flop and turns a Q. Instead, I flop two pair, turn and river complete flushes, I flop and turn big draws that don't come in, yadayadayada. I love the fact I'm actually playing everything else well this month - I hate that I'm flaming out on Wednesdays way too fast...

hey, I got bluff called!

I haven't had a chance to try out NYRambler's Monday night series in a while, but decided to pop out for the $5 cubed tourney last night - I like 1R+1A events - but the way Full Tilt structures it, with 1k stacks and a 1500 chip add-on, is kind of meh compared to Stars' 1500 chip starting stacks and 2K add-on.

Anyway, with only 16 runners, this wasn't a particularly deepstacked event, especially when I spewed the inital stack (resteal of lilkimmer77's button raise, I shove with A8s from the blinds, he calls with 66, turn A, river 6) and had to rebuy early on in hour 1.

Actually, I don't know why I even say hour 1, because I made the final table without making the first break. Somehow I managed to get bluff called by Jack-high and pwned.

Blinds 40/80 nine handed - I'm the short stack with 1300, bloodslut has the chip lead with 5900
I openraise from MP to 225 with AJs, bloodslut, who had been minraising like every pot with the huge stack, minraises to 450 from the button, I call because I have the suited jackace, afterall.

Flop T75r. I decide, w/e, I have overs, and shove the last 850 or so.

I get called by.... J8o. Who knew I was value betting?

Turn binks the gutterball with the 9, river blank, GG me.

Yes, you have a big stack and the price isn't atrocious - I've definitely made worse calls. Yes, god knows I threebet with cheese sometimes in position. But bluff catching (unless I'm doing this with 98) on the flop when you can't even beat any bluff.... well, I guess that'll happen.

Meanwhile, at least I banged a final table in another 90-man KO for $144 to make the night pan out.

Blinds 1200/2400/300 eight handed. I have 48K in chips for second. CL has 75K, shortie 14K, UTG+1 has 38K.

UTG+1 opens to 10800. I have KK UTG+2 and decide not to flat or shove, but do a silly donk minraise to 19200. all fold, UTG+1 calls. Pot is already 44K counting antes.

Flop A22r. UTG+1 practically instashoves for his remaining 19K stack.

I'm getting a great price - On the one hand, the line screams "I donked my Ax" more than "I'm being stubborn with KK/QQ/JJ". However, everyone knows I probably have KK/QQ more than AK/AQ given the preflop action and would never fold an ace in this spot.

Call and hold, hey, a 90K stack looks good with a chip lead.
Call and lose, I have less than 10K and am basically toast.
Fold, I have 29K, which ain't much in these KO tourneys, but it's 10BB for another five minutes

Besides just shoving preflop to make life EZ, do we spite call or lay it down?
