Yeah, so now that I'm done with my work for the month, I decided to donk around everyone's favorite free bar poker tournament tonite... and I finally manage to win for once. So, obviously played like an expert and pwned all comers, right? Let's see..

PLO8 still wonderful, NL tourneys.... not so much....
Some one tell me again how people manage to sustain an online bankroll?

Not that I'm playing great by any stretch of the imagination coldcalling, then shoving 100BB with AKo preflop... but, at least I'm doing something aggressive.. instead of calling a raise THREE TIMES preflop, including two allins, with 44.... or, for that matter, raising AKo out of position for 1/6th of your stack, then calling a shove.

Sigh. No one ever seems to fold small pocket pairs anymore, they always hope you have AK....

home game time...

Ok, so over the weekend Jenn and I stumbled into a home game I found via 2+2 - a nice, relaxed, low limit 1-2 HORSE cash game which was quite a bit of fun... I hadn't played a live mix game in over two years, since donking around a 6-12 game at the Venetian during the 2006 WSOP.... I ran really hot early, donked some of it back, but generally played a solid game - Jenn doesn't play a lot of the ORSE games, so she struggled a bit hand reading the split pot games, but we pocketed $20 in profit, so it was a good evening overall...

People were good company, no bad apples, pretty much everyone knew how to play all the games, so it wasn't like there was a soft spot or anything - just an opportunity to play something that wasn't unlimited hold them without having to find a 40-80 game somewhere in AC, if you're even lucky.

I definitely can't make it a regular event, but I'll try to get back there soon - host is trying to run a $20 rebuy tourney during Saturday afternoons, so once I'm done stripping wallpaper and watching photos from Beijing roll by this month, I may have to try that out as well....

Interesting hand tonite playing Stud/8 against someone who knew who I was, but I didn't recognize them... To be honest, it drove me a little nutz, but I think I made a proper fold.

Full table. 4s brings in, Jh, Qh, Qd fold. I decide to complete with (K5)K with only a Q, 8, and 5 behind. Naturally, all call, five to fourth street.

4th, I catch the Kc. Nice to haz three cowboys. Other boards
Qd2c - 8s5d  - 5d7c - 4s4h - so there are low draws out there, but I should be in great shape regardless. I lead. Only the Q2 folds, all call, four to fifth street...

5th, I catch 7s. Boards are
8s5d9h - 5s7c2h - 4h4h6s  - so one low got there, but rest are drawing....
I say something about "good, let's all chase half the pot" and lead.

But NOW the 859 raises, and the low three bets, 446 folds.... and I can't think of any hand that should be raising here but (76)859 for a straight - because I've shown no indication of folding - getting the low to threebet me isn't likely to make me fold unless I only have the open pair. Trips are unlikely here, and If I need the boat, two 5s and at least one 7 are already dead. As it is, I'm chasing half the pot.

So I reluctantly fold, 859 caps, low calls.

6th pairs both players, 8599 vs. 5727.  Bet/the low is all in, and I get to see the cards...

(88)8599 vs. (A3)5727. Ack. He filled up anyway, so if I want to be results oriented, I saved myself a bunch of bets.

As it is, I'm wondering as a general question - like rolled up 8s play or not? I think fourth and fifth are interesting spots.

Fourth. You have the best hand 99% of the time (though not here, lol). Shouldn't you raise, make the low draws call two bets, and start building a pot since you should be getting half of it the vast majority of the time and all of it if the lows brick?

Fifth: Now that the low is here, a raise into him may make him threebet and force out the high hand you're trying to milk for extra profit in the split pot. Maybe smoothcall, let the low raise, then trap my KK7 for another bet and threebet then? Certainly no one will be folding now and we're all committed to the river.

Maybe mr. eights is crafty enough to feel like he can drive out a better high draw or trip kings by repping the straight when the nine hits, letting the low threebet and forcing me to call two cold with a one-way hand  - or, maybe he's just value betting trips and got lucky that 1) the low threebet 2) I folded and 3) he filled up on sixth anyway.....

Finally, does anyone really fold trip Kings here? Am I an uber nit?
