almost live bloggy for mooknight.

Mookie time... I managed to miss Skillz again this week because life got in the way (promise next week with Pauly's tourney and double stack HORSE, really, I'll be there), but made it for this one. 56 runners. Let her rip!

Things are slow for a bit, then they get fun quickly....

Blinds 30/60, I have 2885, BamBamCan covers.
I raise AA to 175 in EP, Bam reraises to 490 on the button, blinds fold, I flat call
Flop Js9h7s, I check, he thinks, bets 360, I think and reraise to 2150, he shoves the last 245 with KQo, I call.
Turn and river blank, I double up.

I hit the first break top 10 in chips, then early in hour two.....

Blinds 60/120, I have 6265, oossuuu754 barely covers
I raise JdTd UTG+1 to 325, all fold to oossuuu754 in the big blind, he calls.
Flop QT4r, he checks, I c-bet 500, he raises to 1250. I hate c-betting and folding here, so I donk call to see another card, even though he's more likely to have a Q than a draw here.
Turn 9d. Not horrible. He fires 2K, I decide to shove for 4690 total with all my outs (floosh, str8, even a T, lol), especially because that bet size just doesn't feel right for some reason.
As soon as he tanks, I'm thinking, he's got complete air or is trying to hero call with one pair. But he's got to call getting almost 4-1, right?

oossuuu754 has 15 seconds left to act
oossuuu754 has requested TIME
oossuuu754: you got KJ dont you
oossuuu754 is sitting out
oossuuu754 has timed out
oossuuu754 folds
Uncalled bet of 2,690 returned to heffmike
heffmike shows [Jd Td] a pair of Tens
heffmike wins the pot (7,210)

heffmike: got one [part right
PirateLawyer (Observer): lol
oossuuu754: wow bad fold by me
PirateLawyer (Observer): obv ;)
heffmike: I never, in a million years, figured youd fold
heffmike: but it never hurts to try
PirateLawyer (Observer): the str8 was gonna hit, you figured ...
heffmike: or floosh, or T
oossuuu754: i new you were weak but put you on KJ

He said he folded KQ. Sounds right. Although usually I NEVER get a fold like that when I need it, I always get the call whether I want it or not.

At least I ran the semibluff against a thinking player who knows what a fold button is. Bah, I would have hit on the river anyway... :-)

Later PureProphet acts like he has somewhere to be when he shoves 4K into a 1K pot on the flop and I call with KQ on a Kxx board. his A7 gets no joy, and I'm up to 13K.

Then I get moved tables and immediately fuck up a hand vs. the chip leader.

100/200. TraumaPoker has 20K, I have 13K. Only one other stack even had 9K, we have the top two stacks in the tourney.

He raises UTG+1 to 625, all fold, I call with KQo in the big blind.
Flop QhTh4s. I check, he c-bets 950, I call.
Turn Ks. I check LIKE AN IDIOT, he checks behind.
River 9s, I check, he value towns me betting 2200 into a 3250 pot, and even though EVERY DRAW just came in, I call and get shown Jh6s. Sigh. Pwned.

Arrgh, last time I try to pot control a hand with the chipleader that deepstacked and not charge draws... I wanted to bet, but convinced myself that "he doesn't have flush draw or a J, let him draw to his kicker or fire again and I can check raise."
Jeez, just lede next time. I hate playing pots out of position, and if I'm playing them that badly, I should just fold in that spot.

Anyhow, since he's on my left, I decide to nit up for a bit. Naturally, he goes on a tear and chips up to 30K, I stay around 10K as we get to two tables.  End up 5th of 15 at the second break.

As hour three begins, I make a few steals, then Columbo open shoves for 4720 at 250/500, I decide to call with 77 in the BB for a third of my stack. His KJo flops a K. Boo, down below 8K
Play a couple of bad pots where I make some meh folds.
Open shove 6K on TraumaPoker's BB with 22 from the button at 300/600/75, I hold vs. his A3o to double through to 13K.

pick up a few more chips during the level, then six-handed, Ilkkak open shoves UTG for 4100, I think and call from my BB with A4o. It holds vs. KJo. Up to 20K

Then, I think TheBlueHeron temporarily lost his mind.
Five handed at 400/800/100. Folds to me with 20K on the button, Columbo has 3400, TheBlueHeron covers with 31K.
I open raise to 2300 with KJo, Columbo shoves for 3300, TheBlueHeron flats, I call the additional thousand in chips getting nine billion to one..
10k pot to the flop. T94r. TheBlueHeron bets 2500, I fold, he shows AJo (ack!), Columbo has 77.
Turn K. Fuck me.
River blank, Columbo triples up, the dry side pot bluff never works. (since Columbo moneyed, he should ship a buck over to TBH for the favor)

Anyhow, after that, everything is pretty standard short stack, shorthanded poker.. I make the final table 4th in chips with an average stack, 17K at 500/1000/125 - and just can't get anything rolling as we pop the bubble and roll into the money
I open shove a couple of times in standard spots, stay afloat until we get fivehanded....

800/1600/200.  TheBlueHeron has 31k, I have 20K and the short stack. Chip leader has about 55K.
TheBlueHeron open raises UTG to 6600, I have 55 and decide to stop and go, instead of folding or shoving. Probably debatable with 55 that folding > stop&go vs. an UTG raise that big.
Flop Q64, two diamonds. I shove for pot, get called by TT, and don't spike. 5th place for $45. Not bad.

I see J Haze was the winner winner, good stuff for him.

not being active enough...

well, missed Skillz this week (I see someone else didn't - and jeez, doublestack PLO next week, ohboy... I gotta get back on that horse) but did get to the Mookie with Jenn - didn't realize the live blog was going... and bounced in 21st, nothing to see here.

Of note - decided to gambool and shove over top of Mookie's LP open raise with a 10 BB stack with 33, have him call with two overs, spike on the flop, but watch a 3 fall on the river to take him out. That was the highlight, don't think I ever got my stack above 5K.  Got it in preflop with oossuuu754 as a 60-40 fave and didn't hold, he went on to win - so things were pretty slow and snoozy for me.

I keep getting threebet when I openraise in MP and don't have a hand, and don't have any real fold equity from a shove - but every time I have a holding, it folds around or a blind calls and check folds the flop. I need better timing or something. Anyhow, trying to play more PLO8 SnGs of all things just to see where some consistent coin can be scored....

Oh, and I have a feeling August is going to suck - or at least be wayway busy. joy.

gone and back, and gary owes me 30 sklansky bucks

well, been away for a bit..... took the vacation down to Mississippi and back.... more on that later.... rejoined things with the Mookie tonite - and while I final tabled, I was the Bubble Boy, 7th of 52. I don't think I even got one bounty.

Started slow, never got a thing going until the middle of hour two, not even sure how I managed to actually start chipping up, but started opening things up with two tables left and made some hands... had a decent but not average stack at the final table, finally GCox25 openraises half his short stack from UTG+1 seven handed (4375 at 500/1000/125) - I reship AKs from the button, he calls with AJo, but rivers a running fourflush. I have one blind left and go out the next hand.

I'm not sure why he's betting half his stack instead of just shoving with AJo, because it just narrows a reshipper's range to something AJo fairs poorly against, getting 3-1 or not. Thoughts? I mean, I'd ship that holding with less than 10BB way before bet/calling, but whatever - not like it changes anything in that spot..

Anyhow, I joked that I thought about folding AKs (riiiiiiiiiiiight) because of how bad I've been running lately when I shove..... Which brings us to the playing part of the Mississippi experience, the Beau Rivage... the players there owe Jenn and I mad Sklansky bucks, because we kept getting the chips in good and not holding.

9s9x vs. As2x on a 6s7s8s flop
QQ vs. JJ on a 789r flop
AJ vs. KQ on a KQTr flop
AA vs. QQ vs. 77 all in preflop on bubble, naturally the board binks a 7

I ended up playing a lot of 4/8 LHE just to not have to worry about all the stupid variance - plus the $6/down time charge and way deep stacked 1/2NL games just weren't any real fun -  I actually rather enjoyed live limit's more relaxed pace, as much as it can make your head asplode and would have played 10/20 if it was spread when I was around. Tournaments were fine, although structures were too slow early and too fast in the middle, so a lot of play was gone by hour two or so.. A fun room, but I'd rather play in AC, all things considered - even if the players are more interesting in the South..

Anyhow, going to try to enjoy a few weeks with Jenn and without the kiddies, get some decent play in, try to run good a few times.. Later

bleh.

21 of 48 in tonite's Mookie. A total snoozefest for me - no hands, no hitting flops, no decent places to resteal, every check-raise got snapped off - only way I chipped up was by stealing blinds and shoving QQ into AA preflop and spiking a set. Finally open shove A6 in the hijack seven-handed  for 8BB and (gee, this is a recording) someone in the blinds wakes up with a hand - though they did semitank before reshoving with AQ.

Yawn. Maybe someday I do something interesting.

perhaps games still are good...

just not in unlimited hold them.... from a PLO8 SnG last night - villain directly on my right basically won 9 of the first 13 pots by
1) minraising every pot
2) donking some silly 1/5 pot bet on the flop OOP into five people
3) doing it again on the turn into the three people left and
4) donking the river again and either getting a fold or showing down some ridiculous running winner.

Case in point, donkboy open minraises at 15/30 to 60 in MP with 3K behind, I cover and call with QT98ss on the button, blinds come along,.
Flop Qs9s3d. SB bets 60, donkboy minraises to 120, I pot to 660 with top two, all fold, he calls.
Turn 4s, check, I check behind with no spades.
River 3c, he makes an obvious value bet, 210 into a 1600 chip pot, I crying call and see, no not a flush, not a boat, but A237 no spades for rivered trips.

Which made the next two hands all the sweeter.

Donkboy openraises 3x to 90 from UTG+1. I call behind with AQ35ss, SB calls.
Flop QT5r. SB checks, villain bets 90, I'm sure I'm way in front and pot to 570, SB folds, donkboy calls.
Turn Qs, HE DONKS 90 AGAIN. I shove for 1700 with the virtual nizzles because he loves to call, and does with AAK8. River bricks. Pay me.

NEXT hand, donkboy openraises 3x to 90 again from UTG with 2K behind, I call again with AT98ss, one caller behind with 1600 in chips, I cover with 4800..
Flop Jh8h7s. Nice to flop the nizzles again, though vulnerable. yes, our villain DONKS AGAIN for 150, I pot again for 765, coldcaller comes along, so does donkboy. hmmmm.
Turn 8c. VILLAIN DONKS AGAIN (this is a recording) for 150. I decide to shove anyway into the coldcaller's potential boat, BOTH players call off their stacks.

Donkbet boy - AKK6, King-high heart draw, chasing it with the overpair on a paired, drawy board
Coldcaller - A238, nut low draw and the other 8. Boo, might get quartered.

River T. Sweet, pay me again. I scoop a 5K pot with Mr. Full House.
If only everyone played like that.....

EDIT: this has nothing to do with anything above, but this thread is gold, Jerry, gold!
