spewing on schedule

You know, I decided to look this up  - counting today, I've played 35 Mookies since the start of 2007. Only 3 Final Tables/Money finishes, and one second (in December) -  so, I'm about in the hole $140 or so overall in this tournament - that's freaking horrible.
I have no idea why I play this particular tournament so horrible, but jeez. I manage to do stupid shit and run into shitty spots all the time. Usually it's a combination of having someone spike or play a hand they shouldn't out of position that gets me short, and then I shove into someone that makes a call (with the best hand, of course) and I don't get there.

Tonite, I raise a UTG limp with AK, get called - they check call 2/3rd pot on a 7c5c5x flop bet, I check behind a Q turn, and then Donkette leads the minimum, 40, into a pot of 800 on a blank river. I pop it to 500 because I'm not sure what kind of holding does that and can call a raise, but quickly get called with one that can, AcQc..... I later raise a LP limper from the SB and lede at the rag flop - and get called both times, so I have to check fold the turn (which, honestly, I'd also check a big hand on the turn looking to induce a bet, so I don't think it was complete air in that spot)... and then, of course, I shove over 20BB (1300 at 25/50) over Donkette's open with 88 and get quickly called, again, with JJ.
I really need to remind myself not to make moves in this tournament, because no one ever folds anything and plays very trappy/passive, calling instead of leading their hands. I spew my stack every other week.... maybe that's why I'm more partial to limit now, because it keeps me from making these kind of plays... anyway, that really sucked tonite. Bleh.

hohoho

yay, I play Skillz tourney last night, because I'm sucked in by any mixed game (and yay for HOE) - and finish second of 37....

boo, I finish second to pushmonkey72. nice enough guy.... but do I have to be heads up down 6-1 in LHE? Even if I have my luckbox running, that's a tall order.

still, nice, solid play by me - nothing notable - played like I was sitting out for 90 minutes, then rivered a wheel in 08 for a scoop in a three way pot, and I was rolling from there. Final table started pretty even in chips, but I never could find a good spot - and pushmonkey found them if they were there or not, lol.... so second was a neat trick, all things considered.

wait, how do you make a low again?

Jenn and I have been heading out to a different free bar poker league recently - the date and time works better, atmosphere is nice, play is a bit more predictable..... last week we ended up finishing up second and third (about a four-table SnG, basically) - we had a lot of fun playing live against each other for once (I shove AQo, she folds AQo - I raise 88, she shoves, I call getting 3-1 and can't crack her AA - She raises 44, I shove AT, she calls getting 3-1, and rivers a 4)  This week, no joy, but after I was done, a few guys wanted to play a little four-handed HORSE for fun..... woot. woot.

We started with 5K in chips at 100/200, and played 20 hands (four of each rotation - although they thought O was Omaha Hi and E was Omaha/8, lol.) I think I had about 25K after those 20 hands.... kept making boats and straights.... what a heater - too bad it was for no money. But it is further evidence for my thesis that the average Hold'em player gets completely lost with more than two cards to look at.....

Anyhow, finished second in another one of those Knockout SnGs, this time a 24+2, so the bankroll should be solid enough for a decent BBT3 run.....

Yeah, I'm prolly way -EV, but I feel good, so let's see what happens...

maybe I should just stfu....

...or at least not try to play a Stud tournament (AIPS 3.2) AND a Stud/8 tournament (Riverchasers) at the same time, because you're just asking for confusion and trouble.

AIPS was fairly standard, if you call 110 randoms playing a Stud tournament standard (who knew that many people wanted to play Stud?) - kept a decent stack for couple of hours, but never really acquired enough chips to get rolling - out in 41st.

Riverchasers drove me completely nuts, because I kept getting into three way pots with Waffles and Cndycarr10, who seemed to come into every pot with a high pocket pair, make two pair with no low, and have it hold.  I kept having huge two-way drawing hands on fifth, miss but backdoor into something like two pair, call the river getting 10-1 and get shown trip 8s and a 86 low....... sigh. Also, keeping track of two different Stud tourneys, and remembering which one was hi/lo, was starting to wear on me - of course, I should have thought of that beforehand, silly me.

So, after a couple of hands like that, I just said to hell with it and mashed the bet button with anything on third street that didn't have an 8 or 9 up... :-) Out 29th of 30, a neat trick for a doublestack tourney. Despite dumping most of my chips to her, cndycarr10 out in 21st.

Still, it was a positive night again, picking up a couple of tokens and some cash money, so not a total bummer...

four cards are fun

God, I love playing PLO8 tourneys against bloggers, or any split pot game for that matter. There's no other type of game I feel more comfortable with, where I know I have an edge. And I ran very, very good in the Skillz game tonight - way good - right until I bubbled for 7th on the final table. Oh well, go big or go home - it's a coin flip, we both know that, and he can afford it.

Predator06 made a LOT of way loose preflop and flop calls - of course, slumming in stakes, playing way low for him -  but when you run good it really doesn't matter.... witness a hand I botched up (raise cheese UTG, then fold, along with Bone_Daddy FLAT CALLING in that spot as with 13 blinds - if he does what he's supposed to do and shoves, Predator may not even be in the hand and I might donk call and scoop) that sent him on his way.... of course, as I post this, after a huge chiplead with six players left, Predator06 is out in sixth.

Anyhow, I played really well, won an SnG after being 7th of 7 during the Skillz run to have a nice easy positive night - Also, been just on the cusp of breaking through in some of the silly $3 rebuys lately - final three tables one night, just bubbled in a huge spot another night -  I'm so close I can taste it. Something big will happen soon.

again, single stacks suck part 2

Hey, this week I actually ran well in the Mookie for once - chipped up to around 6K at the first break when QJ>J3 blind v blind on a J high board and AA>AQ on a low, suited flop. Then spent the second hour stealing blinds at a nice steady pace, chipping up, chipping up to around 8K - but damm this thing gets so short stacked in hour two now. Three tables left and the average stack is around 15BB.

Raise 88, blind shoves, you get better than 2-1, call, A9 spikes a 9 on the river. Fine, it'll happen....
Try to steal once or twice an orbit to chip up, open raise QJs, blind shoves, you hate the spot, since it's for 2/3rd of the stack, but you're getting 2-1 and hope it's AK, but no, KK and suddenly you're back to 1500 after all that great play with one loose open at 20BB.

Stop & Go TT to double through, but run Ax into AK in the blinds (again) to go out 15th.

I really am wasting my time and 11 bucks every week.
Variance? No, just not as good as I think I am.

studly

I can see Stud's not popular among Riverchasers... only 25 peeps. I finished 4th - yay - for money, but geez, should've done better than that. Got silly and ran buried queens into Drizz's split aces (not like he didn't let me know by three-betting me on third, but I'm dumb like that) Anyhow, was a good showing by me, and at least I feel like my Stud game, regular or H/L, is in decent shape.

Also decided to donk around in the 28K tonite.... was top 30 in the second hour until I ran QQ into KK and dropped back down with the plebes... now just short stack ninja time with 20 blinds.....

Edit: yeah, gone 200-something, before the bubble. Another silly resteal from the blinds against a player open-raising from the button, again for 20BB, this time with 87s into JJ. Geez, I guess people open raise the button a lot tighter than I do, or I'm just running into hands, or being an idiot. Oh well.

i'm hoying it one time

I don't care how loose you think I'm three-betting, or how bad you think I am.  Who steal raises/stacks off from the button for 23 BB with 33?
Even if I'm a way loose idiot and am shoving 30% of my hands you're still a 45/55 dog for all your chips with not even 20% of your stack in preflop.  That's if I actually have overcards. Pairs just crush.... So the call is neutral EV, barely positive at best.
That's why I hate asingle stacktourney - one freaking booboo or bad hand and everyone is flipping coins playing pushmonkey poker 30minutes in to get that double up and have some room to actually play.

Yeah, shoving A9 is not supergenius poker by any stretch, but I am slightly ahead of a normal raising range and probably get a fold there more often than not (if I can get AT/AJ/22-77 to fold that's even better, obviously, though no one does that in the Mookie).

Calling and playing A9o out of position sucks in a raised pot (though it would have worked here) - folding seems way too weak to what looks like an obvious steal with what's likely the best hand, and if I'm going to raise, it will be for around 500 anyway, so I may as well shove given stack sizes.

And that's just it. I have fold equity or can hit a winner. 33 HAS to hold up after seeing five more cards.

Anyway, NumbBono's won the damn thing twice. He must know something. Blog name isn't bad either.

Heff

bam. bam. boo.

So much for skill - Decided to play stud/8 tonight - hey, it's prolly my best game, one I've won multiple donkaments in.... And played great for a couple of hours - had the chip lead with about 30 players left - and then went out in 28th. Haven't been that ticked off with myself in a long time.
Basically did the one thing I never do in cash Stud/8 or early in tourneys - play big pairs aggressively against weak low boards and get backdoored. Just two hands toasted me with scoops as I ran from first to worst - when blinds and antes get that big, I like to raise and pick them up - but I ran into a small pair that quaded up by sixth street and a 8-low that rivered two pair. Arrrgh. My own damn fault.
