Now, it's early in a $10 tourney and Hoy has a lot of chips in Hand 2, so I'm not trying to make this out as a serious strat post. Just keep in mind, the guy who's entire reason for posting seems like "I'm a supergenius TAG, look at how these monkeys call and suck out on me every night..."

1) Ran a squeeze with 77 and advertised it (allin blind on the flop means I have a meh hand) and eventually got it in preflop for nearly 45BB, flipping with that middle pair.
2) Raise/called from early position with 87s - which I actually like in regular spots - except that I threebet an EP raiser from the blinds, only have 1.5x pot behind on the flop, and given stack sizes will prolly either bet/call a shove or check/fold on almost every flop - so there just aren't going to be a lot of flops where he'll be able to get the rest in with sufficient equity - and I'll pay him off.
He flops good, I probably completely whiff my hand and check/fold, putting him on a strong range. I flop good, Hoy probably whiffs and doesn't try to blow me off a hand and folds. Flop comes monotone with an Ace, I stack off drawing to a runner-runner boat. :-(

I just don't think I'm deep enough here to make this profitable; I haven't run numbers, so I could be wrong, but I think I need to have more like 4 or 5K behind here for implied odds to make this +EV.

But, let's get this straight right now. Neither play is a donk, silly play.

What they are, are aggressive plays with a wide range - yes, it's early in the tourney, strong players are looking to build a stack - but to sit here and say, oh, that guy is a TAG, he only raises big pairs and AK in this spot... pshaw. People do raise and call with a wider range than you think, period.

After all, I certainly wasn't worried that Hoy flopped a flush there - I was thinking he's got KK-JJ with a heart or has a big Ace with a heart - AxQh, AxJh, or AxTh. If he coolered me with set or AK, fine, but I should be in front, no free cards. After all, I can show up with AA/AxKh there too. Oh well, that'll happen. Hope he gets deep and writes it up well...

Anyhow, gonna try for a fourth banana tomorrow and see if the AIPS crew treats me any kinder...
