enough already

the one game I looked forward to this week. PLO8 Riverchasers. 70 of 75? Fuck.

Get quartered in one big pot for half my stack when I get stupid with a nut low and nothing else, then rivered in another to go from scooping to being scooped.

And that's it. Not even two orbits in a double stack tournament. Freaking shoot me now.

I shouldn't even play Sunday, because that's just spewing a hard won token.

Things were good earlier this month, now they suck again. fuckfuckfuck.

I will quit having a good feeling about anything.

Played like ass tonite, out 74th of 114.

Watched JD run like freaking god AGAIN, only this time at my table, flopping sets vs. TPTK on drawless boards, etc.

Somehow bet/folded the river to a shove when I'm holding TPNK on a junk board, because I couldn't see how anyone would bluff raise when I'm calling more often than not - but his range was so polarized I should have called anyway.

I am NEVER saying anything good or bad about how I play ever again, because I just put the dumper mojo on myself when that happens. I'm playing and running as bad as I was before my nice run in early May, and I'm getting sick and tired of it.

boo me. boobooboo. boo.

no skillz

no, that was not good  - between Fuel55 crowing about some timing tell that happened because someone asked me a question in the middle of a hand and I wasn't paying full attention, and Surflexus calling down behind every street before spiking a three outer to bounce me in 66th of 76 - I played like shit. The worst part was, I thought I could play one hand's line off of another and it didn't quite workout.

Hand 1, Fuel55 open raises to 140 at 20/40 in LP, I reraise from the BB to 400 with Kh9h on a straight steal, he calls.
flop 553r I check, he checks
turn A, I bet 600, he calls.
river 8, no flush, I check, he checks behind with AJo.

Now, during this I was having a conversation, so I wasn't fully paying attention and whatever timing tell he thought he read was artificial - but the weird thing is, I generally check low paired flops after raising preflop anyway, esp. when out of position, regardless of what I'm holding. It's too easy for a good player to float or reraise in position, and I'd rather do the check-raising on these boards if I'm holding the overpair or big draw and balance for the times I completely whiff the board.and need to take the same line...
When the A comes, I figure it's a good card to donkbet, because it hits my range nicely, Fuel either has a midpair or meh Ace in this spot and I might get a fold from a lot of his range, and if called, no more of my chips are going in the pot. Naturally, it looks sketchy to check the flop/fire the turn and I should just standard c-bet it, but there's not a whole lot of holdings in my range that can love a flop call or reraise.  I honestly check an overpair often on these kind of flops, because everyone loves to put a raiser on AK and bet a low flop when checked to - and when they check behind they'll usually be drawing to 2-5 outs anyway, so the free card isn't a killer. No, it's not a standard line, and I don't use it everytime, but it has its place.

Whatever, Fuel pwned me and said as much, so the line probably sucks and I should just blast every flop I raise until reraised...

Anyhow, later,  Hand 2: Surflexus limps at 30/60 in EP, I raise pot to 240 with AKo from the SB, he calls,
heads up flop,  AJ7r.   I check, he checks behind.
turn 5d.  I think, bet 450 , he calls,
River Td for a backdoor flush, I decide there's no way he has a flush draw here or a slowplayed monster and pot it for 1440, he puts me in for 103 more, I call and see AsTs for the rivered two pair.

Arrgh, I check the flop on purpose when I hit on a drawless flop and bet the turn again - and get called by AT with no draws. I sold the fact I didn't have an A and wiffed the flop, and I was going to get paid off on the river, I'm sure, if it's a blank. I should, yet again, quit getting cute out of position and just start blasting flops until someone wants to tell me I'm beat.

But hey, I got to watch the wifey final table again in her usual bizzaro style for 6th. So that was nice. I also got to watch JD Schellnutt with a telescope as he pointed again in 10th, and my May third place may as well be last now for what it's worth. Maybe I can channel my Mookie luck again tomorrow...

what was that I said now? zippo in the Hoy

What an annoying Hoy. Never really pick up a hand. Every time I do it's folded around to me, I standard raise and get no action.  I have to semi-bluff just about every hand I win post-flop because I never really hit the board. I get donk bet into a lot from the blinds on raised pots and the texture and stack sizes SUCK for a reraise or stationing so I have to fold.

Finally, I do a FREAKING STUPID thing and reraise an ubernit -. If you put a guy on a AA/KK/QQ/AK range to raise an UTG limper preflop, even at six-max, after watching him play for eons DON'T SHOVE WITH TT WHEN YOU'RE GETTING CALLED EVERY TIME. He won't fold to the "squeeze" because he's not raising light - I swear as I'm hitting the button to shove I'm thinking I need to flop a set here.... - Dump it and move on, this isn't a forum hand with "no reads" - Heff Idiot Moment, yet again.

rally time

Ok, now that the leaderboards are updated, I've got some goals for this week with 5 events left in the BBT3.

- For the month of May, I'm in third... and of course, there's nothing for second place here...a 2K package would be nice, but I pretty much have to final table or win another event this week to make it happen, and can't have another night like Thursday again - pointing in 2-3 events would be near mandatory...
- For the entire BBT3, I'm 25th. Hey, if I play well, maybe I can make top 20 and at least get a free jersey - not that I really need one, but it would be nice to have some memento for all the ups and downs of the last three months.

Anyhow, I've got my tokens squared away for the Hoy and Big Game, and I like the fact Riverchasers is supposed to be PLO8 (joy!) so, we'll see if I can keep the momentum going into the TOC.

I have a good feeling about this. I may not point in anything this week, but I'm going to play well regardless...

Friday, May 23, 2008

the mojo takes time, but it works...

So, tonite was a doubleshot night - not only Riverchasers in the BBT3, but also AIPS, a 2+1 rebuy tourney.... I'll say this right now -  what a great fucking idea. It's a shame there's wasn't one rebuy in the BBT3. To play a tournament after the first 90 minutes and not be in shovemonkey mode... golden.

Jenn played along too - and Riverchasers sucked for the both of us. She went out 76 of 88, I left 70 of 88. We both spewed chips into flstfboy11 - her with TT<JJ all in preflop, me in a spewy fashion.

I open raise KsQs for 3BB, he flat calls in SB. flop A66, two spades, he leads 2/3 pot, I reraise 3x his bet, he shoves a little more with AJo, I call and don't get there, though I river a King.

As PirateLawyer said, it's wacky to see an all in there with top pair meh kicker and a flush draw, but whatever. He'd done enough spewy stuff at that point (call a raise in position with K9o and check behind three streets, call OOP with Ax, lead a rag board on three streets, including the river, where he finally hit the bottom end of a four-straight, and instacall a shove) that I didn't believe he had an A, even though it's his most likely holding... Anyway, it was just monkey spew, especially because I checked after the fact, I was third in May points and need to make another couple of deep runs to be competitive

So, I was annoyed and made a prediction in chat - flstfboy11 will not make the final table - which was wrong to do, but I really felt like he was playing too fast and loose to make a deep run.

Turn to AIPS - run good early on, never have to make a rebuy beyond my initial double buyin, take the add-on and have around 9K in chips at the first break. Then, pretty much nothing happens for forever, then I end up flatting a 3x raise in the blinds from EP with QQ (blinds 300/600, I have 9K) flop K42r I check, Godard SHOVES for 16K, and I tank. Would he do this with a K? I decide to call, get shown KQo (fuck) and don't spike a one outer. Boo, out in 35th.

In the meantime, Jenn half nods out, nods in to AIPS, doubles through a couple of times, goes up, does down, makes the money, - that's nice.

I check back with Riverchasers while picking up some tokens for the rest of BBT3 - While it sucks that JD Schellnutt, wwonka69 (the two guys ahead of me in points) and flstfboy11 are still in with two tables left, I luck out when JD finishes 11th, flstfboy somehow bubbles in 10th despite having 45K in chips (go MOJO), and wwonka 69 finishes 7th - so I'm losing ground, but not as much as if they would have won Thursday.  Anyhow, congrats to Astin for taking it down.

Jenn is still using all nine lives in AIPS - still alive with 13 players left, finishes 11th. nice job.

snoozy time now, holiday weeking upcoming, woot.

no, we aren't tag teaming everyone...

You know, that avatar is pretty realistic. Damn wifey spoiling my Mookie fun..... ;-)

so we both final tabled last night. Woot.

Actually, it was a blast. We played side by side and amused ourselves at our own tables, then got moved to the same table twice and went Battleship-like with our laptops through to the final table. (yes, we respect the game, no table talk or other shenanigans)

Alas, she lasted longer (??) as usual, though neither one of us got the brass ring -

For me, T9s<T6o (T6 shoves preflop for 3BB, I reraise to isolate, flop Q73, turn 9 and river 8 for runner runner straight) and AK<44 (thanks again Anguila, open raises at 600/1200 to 2800, I shove for 10,800, he calls off almost half his stack, board runs T6262, boo)

In between, I gifted LJ with a double up - pureprophet openlimps in the CO for 1200, I shove the button for 18K with ATo, LJ wakes up with KK in the small blind and doubles through. That'll happen.

Still, I did what I could, Jenn had fun, so a positive Wednesday again... Riverchasers tonite, more pointage for me? we will see.

sigh, playing like a cat

and figuring I have lives to throw away. Man, I know I can play a double stack tournament because it gives me a chance to dust off a ton of chips but still have a playable stack in hour one. The Hoy was nice tonite, but jeez, after getting a second life watch me piss it away to PokerBrian322 in two hands...

Full Tilt Poker Game #6486848325: Mondays at the Hoy (47637147), Table 5 - 25/50 - No Limit Hold'em - 22:24:00 ET - 2008/05/19

Julkeus folds
heffmike has 15 seconds left to act
heffmike raises to 500 (started out playing like a pud  - getting threebet preflop, calling OOP and folding on the flop a lot. Decided to resteal and turn the tables since I hadn't done it yet in the tourney)
Loretta8 folds
PokerBrian322 calls 325  (hmm. don't like this. but, probably thinks I can be pushed around postflop because I've been playing pretty meh so far.)
*** FLOP *** [2d 7d 3d]
heffmike bets 1,000 (can't call a bet, but if I lede this flop anyone can see I'm getting 4-1 to call off the rest of my stack so no one...
PokerBrian322 raises to 4,050 (... can shove light here.... fuck.)
heffmike has 15 seconds left to act
heffmike has requested TIME (am I really folding getting 4-1 with 60% of my stack in? ugh. I beat nothing. Even if I had the monster overpair I'm repping, he's happy playing for stacks.)
heffmike folds
Uncalled bet of 3,050 returned to PokerBrian322
PokerBrian322 mucks
PokerBrian322 wins the pot (3,050)

That was laughably horrible. But, unlike a regular tourney, I still have a 20BB stack to work with. Small consolation. Later, PokerBrian said he had QxQd, which makes perfect sense - I have no reason to believe he's lying.

So, I lie in wait, and manage to resurrect myself.
Open raise TT in the SB for 180 at 30/60 with a 1K stack, Loretta8 shoves, I instacall and hold vs. his 44.
Shamus raises in the CO to240 at 40/80, PokerBrian flats, I reraise from the BB to 900, Shamus flats. Heads up, I shove a T65 flop for 1200-ish, Shamus calls, and my AA holds vs. QQ.

So there, I've got 4500 or so in chips. Hey, I'm back in the game.. Until I get stupid again, and dust off a 50BB stack to the one guy at the table who can bust me.

heffmike checks (well, a good and bad card. flush gets there, but any other hand has to worry about what I am holding)
PokerBrian322 bets 600 (in retrospect, a great bet size, since a half pot bet encourages a shove from muppets like me)
heffmike raises to 1,900 (let's rep it. get the one pair hands and naked spades to fold because this time, I'm not folding, so maybe I can get a light shove... ok, I'm overthinking this on too many levels, this was just silly...)
PokerBrian322 raises to 5,430, and is all in
heffmike calls 1,900, and is all in (sigh, another bad read, but this time I mentally committed myself getting 3-1 to call, and I'm not drawing virtually dead like last time... shit, I just didn't want to fold to his raise again, even though I could have folded the same way as before and left myself a 20BB stack)
PokerBrian322 shows [8s 7s] (that just sucks, but the way I'd been playing, 87s on the button is gold. I play the same way, only I bet-size wrong on the turn and get a fold more often than not)

So I basically gifted him with a ginormous stack nearing the first break. You're welcome. I suck. Right idea, bad timing... or just more likely, bad idea period trying to get silly from the blinds..... I swear, most of my large pots start with me being in the blinds and playing out of position, I should just fold everything there from now on - well, except pairs, I guess.

Sucks not to get any points.... Was 3rd for the month and 25th overall. I really need another deep run or two with 8 tourneys left to challenge for anything of note. I'm starting to get spewy again and need to shape up a bit here.

Thursday, May 15, 2008

and I thought to myself, it's OE...

I'm used to it, I like high-low games, I should have an edge, how bad could Riverchasers be?

I forgot how utterly infuriating O8 and Stud/8 can be when you miss huge draws.

I did finish 10th of 54, so I get a handful of points - but geez was it a roller coaster.

start with 1500, drop to 1K, fluff up to 3, down to 1500, back up to 9K, back down to 6K, then a slow bleed to nothingness by the second break. It wasn't hard to chip up bit by bit, but I kept losing or chopping all the big pots.

Twice, in Stud/8 I have a huge low draw in a multiway pot against an obvious high and weaker low, shove like crazy on fourth - then go brick brick brick and watch the high call down and scoop when none of the two lows hit.

People play these split pot games strange - obvious value bets missed on rivers, obvious river value bets called with weak bluff catchers at best, sticking around with a high-only hand against multiple low boards/draws (why am I talking about my play, lolz) - I remembered that the odd lines taken by most NLHE players in split pot games can drive you absolutely batshit. The variance involved when properly playing two-way draws in these games just kills you when whiff everything

Then with two tables left I can't scoop anything to save my life while watching the Lucko show of starting good or running good to scoop every chip on the table. I finally start doubling through at O8 a couple of times before openraising QQ26 with 4K behind at 250/500, getting called by AT86 in the blinds and losing on a 874T2 board, I think - (check/I bet/call flop, check/I bet/raise/ick I threebet shove all in turn)

Meh. I just barely played ok - prolly sucked as bad as everyone else out there.
But at least I did something semi positive this week, though no cashes.

Be back next week, gone camping..

need more food...

starving this week, must have used up all good karma temporarily in Mookie win.

Hoy - 58 of 70 - AQ<TT preflop despite flopping an A
Skills HOE - 27 off 67, at least I make it past first hour,  in LHE open raise the button with Jx8d to steal when we all are shortstacked, get three bet from the BB, call anyway. Somehow I manage to cap and get all in on a KJx all diamond flop against AdAx and (amazingly) don't suck out. HeffIdiotMoment, yes.
Mookie - 51 of 100 - just completely carddead in this one. never got anything going, never even was in a really good spot to steal a pot. just bled down to pushmonkey status, started shoving, finally shove over a standard open at 60/120 with ATs for 1600 despite my better judgment and can't beat AQs.

This is not helping me here or here. Anyhow, I see Riverchasers is OE tonite, so maybe I can get pummelled in a limit game again. Joy!

may feast or famine...

Over melast six BBT3 tourneys...

Mookie 4/30 - final table for 5th
Riverchasers 5/1 - get deep for 14th
Hoy 5/5 - final table for 6th
Skillz 5/6 - flame out in Razz, 60-something of 67
Mookie 5/7 - final table for 1st, woot.
Riverchasers 5/8 -  flame out 77 of 85 on these two hands...

MiniDonk1 limps at 15/30, I complete in SB withK7o, BB checks
Flop A77, I lede for 60, MiniDonk min-reraises,I three bet to 480, he calls.
       Turn T, second spade. I lede for 750 into a 1Kpot, MiniDonk1 calls.
River Ace. I know I just got hosed and 7s fullare no goot, I check, MiniDonk1 CHECKS BEHIND with A5.

Later, ElSnarfGrande opens for 180 at 30/60 inEP, I threebet with AcKc to 575 with 1080 behind, he flatcalls OOP. Flop Q88,two hearts, he checks, I shove (which I pretty much do regardless of cardsthere) he calls with AQ and I don't resuck.

So, I either run great, or don't run at all. Better than not getting deep atall, though.
At least I have a good head start in
this month's standings and can almost see the overallTop 20 fromhere....

While I've got a moment, I was going to go back through the Mookie again and seeif there was anything of note there...

nothing much happens early - I do try a misclick when katitude raises to 90,gets flat called by get fixed now, and I "accidentally" make it 900from the BB with QQ. They both fold, no fun.

This is where my wireless disappears for 25 minutes. Luckily, it's only 30/60when I'm back, I have 1515 in chips, so no huge loss. In the meantime, Mookie99and PokahDave are at the table, tasit has 6K, thebmorekid 4600, so a lot'shappened while I was down.

Tasit takes out Katitude by opening for 180 and calling a 1020 chip shove withT9s. T9s >KK on a TJ28T board, lol. She was not amused.

First really big, important pot. I get lucky, but I would have check folded ifno Q/J comes on the turn.

PokahDave: lastthree tourneys i've been at the table...people are all over him

which I don't even notice.

heffmike calls 240 (over 50 BB deep, yeah I make this call heads up, sure)
*** FLOP *** [Jd Qs Th]
heffmike bets 560 (nice flop, except for the straight draws, must lede flop)
tasit calls 560 (hmmmm)
*** TURN *** [Jd Qs Th] [4h]
heffmike bets 1,200 (4h is a blank, nothing's changed, should still be goodhere)
tasit raises to 5,280 (THIS was the mistake. Yes, I'd seen tasit make somequestionable plays, but does he really play KQ/KJ/KT or an overpair like this? becauseanything else he's holding - sets, straights, even QJ, crushes me. I reallyneed to fold here. Most players are not calling flop/raising turn with aholding QT is in good shape against.)
heffmike raises to 5,740, and is all in
tasit calls 245, and is all in

tasit wins the pot (12,950) with a straight, Ace high (god, I suck)
heffmike: boo

And just like that, I have 215 chips at 60/120. Joy.

Next four hands,
*jamyhawk raises to 840, I shove with K4 in the SB, BB folds, K4>Q8 on aJAJK9 board, yay, up to 550.
*Fold 73o on button
*Open shove Ks4s, all fold, up to 730.
*Open shove 55, tasit calls with A2 from the BB, I hold on TJ9T4 board, up to1520, now I can breathe again.

heffmike: three more double ups!

one more orbit, I fold my blinds, down to 1320,  I open shove KK at80/160, JD Schellnutt calls allin for 790 with QdJd, I fill up by the turn, upto 2350 now. Julius-Goat's at the table now.

mookie99 (Observer): heff making a comeback
heffmike: ah, one more double up and I feel better about calling off like anidiot with OT on that board.
Julius_Goat: OK y'all, I'm feeling it tonight

Do some betting in good spots, shove over Iakaris's 560 open at 80/160 with QQfor 2900 and get a fold.

Finally getmoved tables at 100/200 with 3600 in chips. First hand I play there, Shipfaced12 limps, I make it 800 with KcQc, AgSweep calls from the BB, Shipfaced12 calls- not as planned, 2600 in a multiway pot preflop.
Flop J84r, they check, I shove 2830, they fold, I show just because I'm a fooland wonder what they're calling with preflop that folds there.

Raise KT in cutoff, blind calls, flop K high, I bet, take it down, now I'm backto 5700 in chips.

It's almost like being down to 215 chips never happened.  I end up gettingAK and AQ a lot, play some more pots, and chip up to 8500 without seeing ashowdown. There's a little give and take, I have to fold some pots until bighand #2 comes up.

Seat 7: ShipFaced12 (20,790)
Seat 8: heffmike (18,100)
Seat 9: cmitch (9,765)

I double up chitwood right away - I raise over a limper, he calls allin fromthe blinds, his A9>my A7.  After that I quiet down for a while. Nextbig spot, TuscaloosaJohn openshoves for 3900 at 250/500/50, I reraise toisolate with AT from the button, I hold vs his KJo to chip up to 21K.

I try to maintain a tight image, but then BuddyDank shoves for 1620 at300/600/75, I min-reraise with QT (lolz) all fold, buddy shows Q5.... but theboard runs out J9J8T for the chop. Islandbum shoves for 1865, I reraise to 4kwith A7 and don't suck out vs. his QQ.

I need to stop doing this shit, even with a relativelybig stack.

I have fun with cmitch on my left, though, in a couple of BvB battles

heffmike calls 300
cmitch has 15 seconds left to act
cmitch checks
*** FLOP *** [7s Td Ah]

heffmike: i know I screwed that one up
cmitch: limp with QQ?
heffmike: no, not that goot.
heffmike: the day I limp QQ thinking you raise me BvB? lol
cmitch: :)

In the meantime I make another loose call of a shorty when Rake Feeder shoves2500, I call from the BB with Kc6c, his Ad3d hits a wheel on the river, so I'mback down to 14K for the next BvB hand.

heffmike calls 300

heffmike wins the pot (1,725)

cmitch: lol
heffmike: oh well
cmitch: i flopped bottom pair
cmitch: :)
heffmike: i almost set you up too

Finally, after a couple steals, I win a hand vs. a shorty again. IslandBum1shoves 1700 at 400/800/100, I isolate with 66, it holds vs. QJs

Next hand, BuddyDank shoves for 2700, I call again with 66, it holds vs. up to 23.5K

Soon enough we're at the final table.

Seat 1: chitwood (13,470)
Seat 2: hoyazo (26,035)
Seat 3: Julius_Goat (23,893)
Seat 4: MaggieO (13,920)

Seat 7: Shabazz Jenkins (4,056)
Seat 8: heffmike (22,185)
Seat 9: ShipFaced12 (26,020)

And I'm in pretty decent shape here. ShipFaced12 starts playing back at me,though. I open raise the CO with Ad3s to 2500, he flats on the button, blinds fold.
Flop Jd5h3d. I lead for 5K, he tanks, tanks, then shoves for 22K. If I'm infront, and I doubt that - it's still a coin flip. I gotta fold and drop down to16K.

heffmike: meh, should have CRai all in instead.
heffmike: i f-d up, as usual, nh ship.

Hoy threebets ShipFaced12's open from the button with the hammer and shows, though, so that was nice in the meantime ;-)

I go carddead, drop down to 13K at 500/1000/125 - ShipFaced12 gets a littlechippy when RakeFeeder openshoves his button for 6300 with the hammer, Shipcalls with 33, spikes a set to eliminate him in 8th, then says.

ShipFaced12: idiot
Rake Feeder (Observer): idiot?
Julius_Goat: pleasant, Ship
hoyazo: more like genius
Julius_Goat: more like a
heffmike: sets are IQ helpers.
Rake Feeder (Observer): go $ $ & & your self
Rake Feeder (Observer): prick
ShipFaced12: i know he had the button but no reason he should shove shorty with72
ShipFaced12: im sure you can pick a beter spot to get your money in

w/e I don't care at this point, I need to double though sometime soon.

Then I make a marginal call that works out. Just a feeling chitwoods' pushingrange was wide enough to make calling a good play here with the blinds andantes tossed in.

Next hand I resteal Hoy's open raise by shoving from the SB, and now I'm backto 25K at 600/1200/1500

I open for 3750 with AsJs, Julius_Goat calls from the BB. Flop KhQhJd, he leadsfor 4800. I hate poker and fold. Boo. 21K.

I tighten up again, bleed down to 17K as we hit 800/1600/200 level. I restealagain from Hoy from the small blind (mainly because he is smart enough to openlight and fold to a resteal in these spots. Most players raise too tight andwill never fold to a shove) to get back to 24K.

Raise AK, get one caller, pot a 4d3d3s flop, bump up to 31K.
Raise 9d7d, have ShipFaced12 reraise for 18K with only 10K more behind, startlaughing and fold.
heffmike: ship, just shove, what's the point of that.

That's OK, Hoy resteals from him next hand, it's all good.

Finally, AgSweep open shoves for 10.5K, I reshove for 25.5K, all fold, TT fallsvs AQ on the flop and I'm down to 15K and 6th out of six players.
Next hand, open shove with 77, MaggieO calls with 66 (had 23K to start thehand) - I hold and bump up to 32K and the chip lead, lol.

ShipFaced12 runs the worst checkraise bluff on Julius_Goat  - Goat raises3x preflop, ship calls from the blinds, flop 456r, ship checks, goat bets 7500,ship tanks, shoves 24K, Goat instacalls with KK, ship has..... A9o, hits ameaningless 9 on the river - and is out in sixth.

The masses are happy that karma has been meted out.

Then I openraise with K4 at 1K/2K/250 because MaggieO is in the big blind with6K. She calls with 22, but I turn a K to take her out in fifth and chip up to37K

Seat 2: hoyazo (21,910)
Seat 3: Julius_Goat (68,274)
Seat 5: AgSweep (24,342)
Seat 8: heffmike (36,974)

Next big pot, I openraise from the small blind with Ad3d to 7K, Hoy shoves fromthe BB for 21K. I'm getting 2-1, I have a suited Ace, Hoy can shove a hand I'mstill in front of, I call.
Hoy has K2o, board runs out J5
QQQ, Ace high is good, three players left

Seat 3: Julius_Goat (74,524)
Seat 5: AgSweep (20,592)
Seat 8: heffmike (56,384)

I start playing very carefully now. I just want to get heads up. I double upAgSweep on a silly hand ( I raise the button to 6K, both call, flop J3J. checksaround, turn 9 gets checked to me again and I bet 12K, AgSweep calls all in,and of course, my 98 is crushed by J9, lol.)

I c-bet a few hands, three-bet Goat a couple of times (he's waiting to get headsup too, I think, so if I three bet he either folds or shoves, and I don'treally care either way, lol.) to get even with him in chips. I have AgSweep allin preflop with AQ vs QJ. but a J comes on the turn - I finally get AT vs.Q8allin preflop to hold and I finally take em out for heads up play

And here's were I forgot Goat didn't have a seat yet, so I decided to offer achop and see if he'd sell a seat to me. To be honest, I would rather play forit and win it, but I know some people are willing to do this, so I figured I'dat least ask. Worst that was going to happen, he would say no.

anyhow, once I figured out I was being a dummy and neither one of us had aseat, I was like NO WAYZ, he was like OK, and we actually decided to play itout.

At least the chip count didn't vary too much during the chat. I was up 86K-65Kwhen we started, by the time we decided to play it out it was 89k-62K.... andit was the very next hand it all got decided.

So, basically, I ran really good to recover from 215 chips to get back to adecent stack, then won a couple of key pots to get a huge stack near thebubble. That gave me the cushion to survive a few coinflips vs. shorties, andthen I ran hot at the final table with every 60-40 hand I needed to win, andlost the ones I could afford to lose. I did play fairly
TAG, and was not splashing around, especially late when the stacks started getting shallow.

I'm not really a great tournament player - I understand SnGs better, and canplay both better than cash games because I'm too aggressive and impatient postflop - but I know I can get deep and handle an above-average stack very well inthese kind of tournaments. It's good to know I've posted better results, eventhough it's probably more variance than anything else - and hopefully itpropels me to a better May.

winnar winnar chicken dinnar...

let's just say the only way I can win the Mookie is...

1) go to NYC on a business trip
2) get back to hotel just in time to play Mookie
3) have computer drop wireless connection for 20 minutes during the first hour
4) double through twice and be top 5 in chips at first break after reconnecting
5) then stack off with 6K preflop at 120/240 with QT on a QTJ4 turn vs tasit's AK when check raised ALLZ IN on the turn (IDIOT ME) to go down to 200 chips.
6) somehow double double double again until I get well and flush with chips
7) double through again vs, Wadzilla's KQ on a KsQs9s flop all in with AsAx when the board pairs nines on the turn.
8) make the final table, then somehow survive, resteal v., Hoy a bunch of times, offer Goat a chop, thinking he had a seat and would give me one if offered the right deal (LOL, IDIOT ME II)

I liked the lineup at the final table, big stacks to my right, a solid lineup, but no one way out of my league - but I decided to get over-aggro and make another resteal with about 15BB when Bdidde openraised from the small blind and I had QJ. He instacalls with AK, flop KJx, turn A, river doesn't let me suck out, gg me.

Anyhow, how do I get this far, besides being lucky enough to turn trip nines? Well, 54 >AA on a x44 flop, all in, and 33>AK on a K3x flop, all in, helps. Then Operation UberNit sets in - until I get silly with restealing against small blind openraisers, ick.

Regardless, another good run, maybe I'm actually playing better and catching a few hands when needed...

BBT through two months

well, at least April was slightly better than March....

Not like the two Mookie final tables this month really helped the point tallies all that much, so with a month or so left to go, there's nothing to do but play better and try to win one of these things- getting top 20 seems slim, so gogogo and see what happens.

Of course, I did get 14th in Riverchasers last night, but that was another tourney were I had a good first hour and was too quiet the second hour, passed up a couple opportunites to reshove and chip up, ended up way too short stacked to really be a factor and eventually shoved ATs into AK for 8BB, gg me.

Must play more greedy, try to accumulate chips, Operation UberNit only works so well....

david chiu is my hero

Logged on just too late to get into Skillz Tuesday (goot, a Stud high tourney can be trying after a few hours) but got into the Mookie and final tabled again -

although I was such a short stack for the last two tables that was I just hanging on like everyone's favorite FTP pro David Chiu, looking for a bump up the pay scale and maybe a luckbox double up or two to be a factor. Out in 5th for $79 with the monster 84o in the BB vs. Lucko's KK - one of the few times he had the best hand when all in preflop.

I got to watch the Lucko show for about the last three tables (we never broke and he was on my left, boo) - and he plays very laggy gambool with a stack that covers. Once he raises, you better threebet for value and not a move, since he will call shoves light preflop with 40/60 hands, QT-ish type stuff, at the drop of a hat. It's a style that's maddening when it runs goot (and boy did he hit every time he had to in a big pot) but it's also correct in the grand scheme of things in this type of tournament.

I need to do that more, but I never have a big stack, so I better learn how to get one someday... Anyhow, he took it down vs. Columbo for like his third seat or whatever.

Otherwise, Operation UberNit was in full swing. I don't like playing like this, but it's the only way I can get anything to work in a MTT right now. God, I wish there was a PLO8 tourney soon, I have so much more fun with those games....

Funny, while Lucko was giving everyone else action, he only called me once, and AJ >AT, yay me.  Basically, things were standard the whole tournament, never had AA/KK, but AK/AQ a ton of times, along with a lot of middle pairs 77-JJ, and when I was in a good spot I raised and stole blinds like mad. People backed out of the way, quit restealing since my range had narrowed so much, and I just tried to keep up with the blinds and antes as we got deeper in the tourney.

In fact I think I passed up thin edges a couple of times when there was a standard open raise in front of me and I hold 88-TT in position with around 15-20 BB.

Shoving seems icky, even with fold equity, because
NO ONE FOLDS PREFLOP after they raise OOP and are then threebet in these BBT3 tourneys, so when called you're flipping or crushed
Flat calling is ok but a little obvious that you only sort of like your hand, unless you mix it up with AA/KK as well - and folding seems so el-oh-el weak... but I ended up folding in a couple of spots where, if I'm going to get a stack that matters, I gotta try and go for it.

Sure I final tabled tonite, but who wants to get there with just a 8BB stack and a slim chance at winning, so big deal, all in all. But, it's better to be fifth than 105th.
